Aromatherapy History In the Making
As I contemplate aromatherapy history and look to the future, I see aromatherapy becoming more accepted on many levels. This will happen because an increasing number of people are tired of handing over to others the responsibility for their health. More and more households will have their own aromatherapist, usually in the form of Dr. Mom! The aromatherapy history of the future will continue to use essential oils of the past while at the same time will search out new oils. Why search for new plants to be distilled as essential oils? Because some of these plants are (1) becoming increasingly scarce and (2) the quality is sometimes not what it used to be. For example, the frankincense tree takes a long time to grow to the point where it can have enough sap to be distilled on a large scale. Other examples include birch and white lotus, which are still available, but most of what is available is not of top quality. New Discoveries!
Most of the essential oils that have been “lost” or have never before been distilled are being found in Ecuador and the Amazon area of South America. Some of these new oils are only now being names and there are many more waiting to be named, distilled, and studied. Examples include palo santo, ruta graveolens, eucalyptus blue, and copal. The palo santo (item number 3607) and the eucalyptus blue (item number 3597) are available as single oils at www.EssentialOilsProducts.com.
To the best of my knowledge, ruta graveolens is not available as a single oil in the United States yet. However, it is the primary ingredient in the RutaVaLa blend (item number 3419 at www.EssentialOilsProducts.com). Copal or copaiba oil is another oil that is not yet available as a single oil in the United States. It is an ingredient in both the Breathe Again Roll-On (item number 3528 at www.EssentialOilsProducts.com) and the Deep Relief Roll-On (item number 3534 at www.EssentialOilsProducts.com). The Deep Relief Roll-On contains both copal and palo santo. How are these new discoveries happening and aromatherapy history being made? I’ll give you three examples. Dr. David Williams, M.D. has been traveling the world for a number of years and shares his discoveries with his readers. Certain tour groups go to the Amazon to study the plants and to study with native shamans there. Gary Young, who is soon to receive his Medical Doctor degree from a major university in Ecuador, has moved there to study new plants, cultivate the ones with the most healing potential, and then distill and share them with Young Living distributors. The Most Exciting Aromatherapy Research in the World Today! This is aromatherapy history in the making! In Ecuador, these new oils are being tested in university hospitals and in the Nova Vita Clinic. Certain essential oils are now being used there before, during, and after surgery in order to help with (1) keeping the patient calmer, (2) pain control, and (3) less loss of blood. In the clinic, certain oils are used intravenously. With some tumors, a specific set of essential oils are being injected into tumors, with amazing success! Because the Ecuadorian constitution promotes natural medicine, experimental uses of essential oils can more freely be explored there, than in the United States. What Is Your Place in the Future of Aromatherapy? There are a number of ways that people can participate, for example: - Being the aromatherapist for your family and friends
