Essential Oils for Hair

Very few people know they can use essential oils for hair. If you're unhappy with your hair and looking for solutions, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some helpful tips for:

  • Dandruff
  • Dry hair
  • Dull hair
  • Hair that needs coloring because the roots are showing
  • Kinky hair
  • Oily hair
  • Thinning hair

There are a number of causes for these hair problems and there are also a number of excellent solutions. What I’m going to share with you here are ways of dealing with some of these issues by using essential oils for hair and products containing essential oils.

What you will not find here is what you’ll see on TV or in magazine ads. You won’t find toxic ingredients either. So let’s get started!

Dandruff. There are many recipes for scalp massages and shampoos that are designed for dandruff control. What makes the most sense to me is to keep it simple, so here’s the three-step process that I typically share.

  1. Make a scalp massage of the oils that seem right for you. Tea tree and cedarwood are two of the most frequently mentioned essential oils for hair with dandruff.

  2. Shampoo with a shampoo that fits your hair type – dry, oily, or normal.

  3. Condition similarly.

Dry Hair. Try the Rosewood Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. It contains rosewood, cedarwood, orange and bergamot, which are essential oils for hair that can be helpful in moisturizing dry hair.

Dull Hair. I’m going to give you three tips for this one.

  1. Consider trying the Lavender Volumizing Shampoo and Conditional. The shampoo contains the following essential oils for hair: lavender, clary sage, lemon, and jasmine absolute. The conditioner contains the essential oils of lavender, geranium, rosewood, Palmarosa, Roman chamomile, ylang ylang, rose, lemon, bergamot, jasmine, sandalwood, and cedarwood.

  2. My friend Carolyn in Texas shared this tip with me:

My hair was friend over six months ago, but in the past few weeks, I've been using frankincense and myrrh on it and my hair has improved 100%!

Here's what I do. Each morning after my shower, I use frankincense and myrrh as a gel or styling product. I was only going to use one drop of each of the essential oils for hair, but the frankincense had other ideas, so I am using 2 drops of each. After I run it through my hair, I rub my hands over my legs and neck/chest area. I am not one to make waste, so I figured why not!

When I say that my hair has improved 100%, it's not just not my imagination. Every day, I am having people tell me everyday how great my hair looks! Even my hair stylist asked me what color I have on my hair. When I told one of my employees about this, she started doing it too, and now she is getting the same reaction. People want to know what she is doing with her hair.

  3. I prefer to use frankincense by itself and my hair looks like the sun is shining down on it, even when it isn’t! This is the fastest and easiest way to get a radiant shine that is almost impossible to describe in words!

Kinky Hair. This wholesome solution may have been discovered quite by accident, but now, more and more people are learning about it. For this application, you need an ounce of the wolfberry juice drink, NingXia Red, and a towel to wrap around your neck and shoulders.

  1. Shake a 1 ounce packet of NingXia Red and put it into a small dish or cup.

  2. Massage about 1 tablespoon into your entire scalp. Repeat as desired.

  3. Leave on for at least 15 minutes. Some people leave it on for several hours or even overnight.

  4. Rinse out and then wash and condition hair as usual.

Beauticians are discovering that this procedure works on kinky hair of almost every ethnic group. The added benefits are that the hair is softer and healthier.

Hair That Needs Coloring and the Roots Are Showing. This tip will work only if you have auburn or red hair that is browner underneath the hair color. Apply a few drops of Canadian Red Cedar oil and then massage it into the scalp with the fingers. Next, use the fingers and then brush it through the hair. No more brown roots are showing and the hair looks great again!

Oily Hair. Lemon and sage oils are known to help with oily hair, so I use the Lemon Sage Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioners. The shampoo contains the essential oils of lemon, lime, sage, pine, and geranium. The conditioner contains the essential oils of lemon, lime, pine, geranium, and peppermint.

Thinning Hair. This can be caused by several different things, so what brings success to one person may be different from what brings success to another.

  1. Darleen, a hairdresser in Kansas, began seeing new follicle growth soon after she began using the Lavender Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. Now her hair is once again thick and full.

  2. What has brought the best results for me is a nutritional supplement called CortiStop. I began with one capsule at bedtime, which is the recommended dose. After a month or so of increasing the dosage to two capsules at bedtime, the thinned out area began filling in nicely.

  3. See also the NingXia Red Scalp Application as in Kinky Hair.

Tip: I always recommend consulting the Essential Oils Desk Reference, even for hair issues.

Tip: Please check the ingredient list on shampoos and conditioners, because many people purchase hair products that appear to contain only healthy ingredients, when in actuality, numerous hair products also contain toxic ingredients.
